How to get to Giverny

By train and shuttle, or by car.

Train from Paris Saint-Lazare

Trains run from Paris Saint-Lazare to Vernon-Giverny. The shortest journey takes 46 minutes. The fare depends on date, connection and ticket type, and the number of direct trains per day varies. Look up your date before you plan.

The shuttle from Vernon

The garden's shuttle costs €5 one way and €10 return. The shuttle timetable is valid from 27 March to 1 November 2026. Example: on weekdays the shuttle leaves Vernon at 9:20 a.m. and reaches the Giverny parking area at 9:40 a.m. On weekends and holidays it leaves at 9:30 a.m. and arrives at 9:50 a.m. That is 20 minutes. Pay on board by cash or card. Seats are limited, and a connection from your train is not guaranteed.

By car

There is free parking in the village.

Rules and access in the garden

What to pack and what to leave behind.

No picnic, no large luggage

Picnics and large bags are not allowed in the garden. Leave luggage in Paris.

Wheelchair access

The garden is accessible by wheelchair. The house is not.

Shuttle starts earlier than the garden

The shuttle timetable begins in late March, but the garden opens only on 1 April. Do not read the shuttle dates as a longer garden season.

Planning notes

Small points that decide whether the day works.

Check the train first

The garden asks you to look at rail works before you buy tickets. Works on the line can change the journey time, and the fare depends on the date and the ticket type. Compare options for your date, then book the garden.

Book the garden online

Online booking is strongly recommended, although tickets are also sold on site. Because e-tickets are final, choose your date only when your travel plans are firm.

Match it to the cruise season

The garden season and the river season overlap in 2026 until 1 November. The Batobus runs daily from 10:00 to 19:00 until that date, and Bateaux-Mouches sails every 30 minutes from April to October. See the Batobus guide for the stops.

Give the visit enough time

The garden recommends 1.5 to 2 hours on site. The last entry is at 17:30, and the grounds close at 18:00. If your shuttle arrives late, you lose visiting time, not closing time.

A sample day

One way to fit it all in. Adjust the times to the train you find.

Morning

Choose a train from Paris Saint-Lazare that reaches Vernon in time for the shuttle. The 2026 timetable lists 9:20 a.m. on weekdays and 9:30 a.m. at the weekend. The garden opens at 10:00.

Midday

Spend 1.5 to 2 hours in the house and gardens. Plan your meal outside the garden, since picnics are not allowed inside.

Evening

Return to Paris. The Bateaux Parisiens cruises run until 22:00, and 22:30 on Fridays and Saturdays, from 28 September to 1 November 2026. See the river cruise guide or the night cruise guide.
