The Seine after dark
You have two ways to see the river in the evening. The first is the one-hour sightseeing ride, which several operators run into the evening, on some nights until 22:30. The second is a dinner cruise on the late service, which ends at 22:45 or 23:00. The Batobus has no night service, so it is not an option after its last departure of the day.
The big question for many visitors is the Eiffel Tower. It sparkles after dark, and the timing follows a rule that is easy to plan around, but the end time is not fixed. The sections below give the last departures for autumn and winter 2026 and explain the sparkle. For a daytime ride see the cruise page, and for a meal on board see dinner cruises.

How the Eiffel Tower sparkle works
A rule for the start, no fixed time for the end.
After dark the tower sparkles for 5 minutes at the start of every full hour. The first sparkle is the first full hour after darkness falls. If darkness comes at 19:40, the first sparkle is at 20:00. So the first time changes with the season, and no clock time holds all year.
The last sparkle falls between 11 p.m. and midnight, and in high season, when the tower closes later, it can run until about 1 a.m. Do not plan around one exact end time. If the sparkle matters to you, pick a departure that is on the water at a full hour after dark.
A boat that leaves at a given time is not promised to be in front of the tower at the moment it sparkles. The timetable and the lights are separate. Treat the sparkle as a bonus and not as a feature of the ticket. The page on Eiffel Tower cruises covers the piers and the ride itself.

Practical tips for an evening ride
Five points to settle before you go.
Dress for the deck
The average low in Paris is 9.9 °C in October, 6.2 °C in November and 3.8 °C in December. On the water it feels colder, so wear a jacket if you want to sit outside.
Plan the way back
The last boat returns you to the pier, not to your hotel. The Batobus does not run at night, so check the last metro or RER for your line. See the Batobus page for its hours.
Check the water level
When the river is high, the captain can change the route and the authorities can limit navigation. The best time page explains what that means.
Pick the pier you can reach
The Eiffel Tower pier is served by metro lines 6 and 9 and by RER C. The Vert-Galant pier is central, on the Île de la Cité. For areas to stay near the piers, see where to stay.
Book if you have a fixed date
At Bateaux-Mouches a reservation is not required for the sightseeing ride in groups under 150 people. A dinner at Bateaux-Mouches always needs one.
Seine night cruises: frequently asked questions
When does the last Seine cruise leave?
It depends on the pier and the season. From 28 September to 1 November 2026 the last boat at the Eiffel Tower pier leaves at 22:00 or, on Friday and Saturday, at 22:30. Bateaux-Mouches runs until 22:00 from April to October. In winter the last departures are earlier.
Does the Eiffel Tower sparkle every night?
After dark it sparkles for 5 minutes at the start of every full hour. The time of the last sparkle varies, between about 11 p.m. and midnight, and later in high season.
Will my boat be in front of the tower when it sparkles?
That cannot be promised. The boat timetable and the lights are separate. Choose a departure that is on the water at a full hour after dark, and treat the sparkle as a bonus.
Is a night cruise the same as a dinner cruise?
No. A night cruise is a sightseeing ride in the evening, normally about one hour. A dinner cruise includes a meal and is much longer. See dinner cruises.
Can I take the Batobus in the evening?
No. The Batobus has no night service. In October 2026 its last departure from the Eiffel Tower is at 19:00.
